One of Seiko’s most iconic lines, Seiko Philippine Limited Edition Prospex, has been a favorite for sports lovers and adventure seekers with its innovative technology and world class design.
The Philippine Limited Edition Prospex watch brings together heritage, magnificence, and adventure in a timepiece.
The first-ever watch from the limited-edition series was launched back in 2020 and boasts a design inspired by Tubbataha Reefs, recognized as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. In 2021, Seiko launched the second watch, which features the country’s unparalleled colorful sunrise.
This year, Seiko has released its third limited edition watch that fuses its craftsmanship and detailing with the beauty of the national bird of the Philippines, the Philippine Eagle.
Not only does the brand pay tribute to the ethereal beauty of the majestic Philippine Eagle, but it also puts forth efforts to ensure the well-being of the endangered creature and its natural habitat.
“This year, Seiko takes inspiration from a great creature that soars above the skies, a tribute to the versatility, beauty and power of the third limited edition timepiece – the strength of the Philippine eagle,” President and CEO of Timeplus Corporation Karl Dy said in a media launch.
The new Prospex carries 6R35 caliber and with a water resistance of up to 200 meters — the timepiece guarantees a reliable performance under any condition. A sophisticated design with a striking two-tone rotating bezel and a textured dial, it also features an automatic movement with manual winding capacity and approximately 70 hours power reserve.
Limited to only 1,000 pieces, this new limited edition is made even more remarkable with a special packaging in red and a box with an eagle head etched in gold.
Hope for the Philippine Eagle
In honor of this momentous occasion, Seiko has teamed up with two organizations that are actively working on the habitat and conservation of the endangered bird and the ecosystem of the Sierra Madre mountains.
Through its partnership with the Philippine Eagle Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the endangered Philippine Eagle and its rainforest habitat, Seiko has adopted a rescue Philippine Eagle in Davao and named it Eiko which means “flourishing or prosperous child.” Part of the proceeds of the sales from the 2022 Philippine Limited Edition Prospex watch will go to the foundation for the shelter, care, and food of Eiko.
“Eiko is the youngest eagle that the Philippine Eagle Foundation rescued at San Fernando, Bukidnon after it was taken from its captors. Now, Eiko is in the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City. When Eiko matures, she can either breed in a natural pair or we can release her back into the wild. Seiko’s contribution will provide for Eiko’s upkeep. We will take care of Eiko so that one day, she can reproduce and contribute to her species’ population,” shared Andrea Maldonado, Philippine Eagle Foundation program development manager.
“Only when we have healthy eagles thriving in their natural habitat can we have balance in our ecosystem and restore the health of our forests for future Filipino generations to enjoy. We hope that anyone who wears the Seiko Philippine Prospects watch would be proud of our national bird and let this watch be a conversation piece of our proud we are of the Philippine eagle and why it matters that we save them,” she added.
One will also get to see firsthand how they are contributing to the restoration and rehabilitation of eagles’ habitat, in collaboration with the Eco Matcher.
For every purchase of the watch, a tree will be planted in the Sierra Madre region under the buyer’s name. Through the Eco Matcher app, the tree’s progress can be tracked along with information about the tree’s species, the exact location where it was planted, and details about its care, among others.
