Filipino rockers Kamikazee to perform in Hsinchu on Jan. 22

Taipei, Jan. 5 (CNA) Filipino rockers Kamikazee will fly out to Taiwan this month for a Jan. 22 live show in Nanliao, Hsinchu City, which will also feature DJs and support from Rendezvous Band, Chronic Band, and the 7th Avenue Band.

Those attending “KAMIKAZEE LIVE IN TAIWAN,” which will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Nanliao’s Gangnan L’amour (港南艾茉爾婚宴會館) will also be able to enjoy Filipino street food and a clothes market, according to organizers GNT Production.

Monmon Bolosoc from GNT Production told CNA that Kamaikazee’s music held deep memories for many Filipinos in Taiwan.

“We grew up hearing their songs, especially the songs in the 2000s. Whenever friends get together for a gathering, or karaoke or guitar sessions, Kamikazee songs will always be played and sung,” Bolosoc said.

“We want the audience to feel the wave of nostalgia once they hear them play live. We want them to enjoy themselves, have fun, and somehow for a moment forget their struggles at work. The feeling to sing live with Kamikazee is an extraordinary experience,” Bolosoc added.

Kamikazee released their first self-titled album in 2003 and has since produced multiple hits including “Narda,” a tribute to the Filipino comic book superhero Darna.

As many Filipinos grew up listening to Kamikazee, he also hopes the live event will help many workers fight homesickness.

“It’s hard, working and being away from family at the same time. We hope this event will somehow help them [Filipino migrant workers] relieve some homesickness,” Bolosoc said.

The GNT Production group, established in 2016 by Filipinos and Filipino-Taiwanese, has become a household name in Taiwan’s Filipino community in recent years by organizing various music festivals, including their “Sand Dance” parties, an annual overnight party at a beach in Zhubei, Hsinchu held in the month of October.
