Co-founder Bessie Besana shares what this milestone means for designers and how FILIPINXT is building a future where Filipino creativity is truly established
For years, Filipino designers have worked tirelessly to carve out space on the international fashion circuit. Now, FILIPNXT has done what once seemed impossible: securing a coveted spot on the official New York Fashion Week (NYFW) calendar. More than just a milestone, this marks a seismic shift for Filipino representation in one of the world’s biggest fashion capitals.

Co-founder Bessie Besana sees this as more than a win for individual designers—it’s a breakthrough for the entire Philippine fashion industry. “We have created a pathway for Filipino designers to be recognized collectively,” he says. “By being part of the calendar, the mainstream media will know about the designer brands.”

FILIPINXT isn’t stopping at designers. The show director, Yancy Trinidad, is also Filipino, reinforcing the platform’s commitment to showcasing homegrown talent across all aspects of production.
Breaking Through
Making it onto the official NYFW calendar wasn’t just a matter of talent—it required proof of concept. According to Besana, the biggest challenge was building a portfolio that could stand alongside the world’s top fashion houses.
“To be recognized, you need a body of work,” he explains. “Having two highly produced shows before this inclusion was critical. We devoted time and effort to make this happen, and now, our labor is being recognized—not just for the team that built the show, but for the designers and creatives who participated.”

The payoff? FILIPINXT is already attracting more attention from global media, private investors, and fashion insiders eager to tap into the platform’s potential.
Scaling Up
With NYFW’s stamp of approval, FILIPINXT is entering a new era. As it gears up for September’s fashion season, Besana hints that the platform will only grow bigger, bolder, and more immersive.
“We want our shows to be different every season—not just in the designs, but in how we showcase the creativity of Filipino production,” he says. The goal is visibility through positioning Filipino fashion as a force to be reckoned with.
This also means refining the selection process for designers. More than just beautiful collections, FILIPINXT looks for brands with the ability to scale—those that can produce garments for retail, sustain their businesses, and support Filipino artisans. The platform’s mother company, Manila to Manhattan LLC, even acts as a distributor, helping designers break into the U.S. market.

“We’re not just here to showcase,” Besana says. “FILIPINXT is about building sustainable businesses that create livelihood for Filipino craftsmen.”
Turning Recognition into Business
But a seat at NYFW is only half the battle. To make a lasting impact, Filipino designers need more than applause—they need buyers. For the designers to truly establish themselves internationally, exposure is just the first step. The real challenge lies in converting visibility into tangible business opportunities.

That’s why FILIPINXT introduced a Trunk Show component in September 2024—a pre-show event where guests could purchase pieces directly from the designers. The move ensures that the runway is a launchpad for commercial success.
“In the future, we want to invite buyers to our shows to help Filipino designers expand their businesses even further,” Besana shares.
A Victory for Filipino Fashion
FILIPINXT’s official recognition at NYFW isn’t just about one event or one season—it’s about rewriting the narrative of Filipino fashion on a global stage.

As Bessie Besana puts it: “This isn’t just about individual designers making it. It’s about Filipino craftsmanship and creativity getting the global platform it has always deserved.”
With this historic moment, Filipino fashion is no longer knocking on the door of the industry’s biggest capitals. It has arrived.
